How it works

Animation: a phone is held up in front of a painting, takes a photo, and the artwork’s page opens with a play button.
  1. Open audioguide.london on your phone when you are in front of a work at Tate Modern.
  2. Photograph it. You do not need a good photo — an angle and a bit of glare are fine.
  3. The commentary starts. If it has matched the wrong work, tap the thumbs-down and pick from the alternatives.

Common questions

Is there a free audio guide for Tate Modern?

Yes. Audioguide.London is free, works in your phone's browser, and covers works on display at Tate Modern in six languages. There is nothing to download and no account.

Does Tate Modern have its own audio guide?

Tate offers its own free digital guide with curated routes and selected works. Ours is independent of it and works differently: you photograph whatever is in front of you rather than looking it up in a list. Use either, or both.

Is Tate Modern free to enter?

Yes, the collection displays are free, including the Turbine Hall. Special exhibitions are ticketed separately.

Does it work for the Turbine Hall commissions?

Turbine Hall commissions change regularly and are usually too new to be in our catalogue. The guide covers the collection displays on the upper floors.
