About this artwork
Before you is “Jeanette Winterson”, an oil on canvas painted in 2019 by Susanne du Toit. The work shows the writer seated comfortably amid a lush vegetable garden, her hand resting lightly on a pen yet not holding it like a typical portrait. She looks directly at us with a gentle smile. Two cats and a friendly dog play around her, adding warmth to the scene. Bright greens of the plants contrast with her light‑colored outfit, creating an inviting composition.
