This is an 1814 etching by Mary Dawson Turner of Elizabeth (née Turner), Lady Palgrave—wife of Sir Francis Palgrave. She sits in a simple gown, her hair pinned back, and wears a pearl necklace that catches the linework’s subtle shading. Turner has rendered every bead and pendants with careful precision, a hallmark of his technique. The plate measures 9 ¾ inches by 7 ⅞ inches, printed on a slightly larger sheet of 13 ¼ by 10 inches. This work comes from Turner’s Reference Collection and was produced after an earlier unknown artist’s design.
