About this artwork
In front of you is a chromogenic print by David Dawson from 2002 that captures two artists in one frame. The left side shows Lucian Freud, his profile lit gently and his eyes framed by a pair of spectacles; on the right we see David Hockney, steady-eyed and composed. The image uses soft tones and precise detail to bring out skin, clothing, and background textures. Both sitters were prolific portrait subjects—Freud appeared in 69 portraits, Hockney in 49. The print was donated by John Morton Morris in 2003.
