About this artwork

"This is 'A woman driver of the Royal Flying Corps' (An unknown woman). In front view you see a woman wearing a flight suit, her cap perched at one side of her head. The aircraft's wing and engine frame are visible in the background – it looks like a biplane from World War I. The image is printed on postcard paper; its half‑tone technique gives the photo a soft, almost watercolor feel, typical of early 20th‑century reproductions. The print dates to between 1914 and 1918, a period when the Royal Flying Corps had begun recruiting women into the emerging Women’s RAF after 1918."
