This is “A Guide to the Flora and Fauna of the World” by Robert Zhao Renhui. Created in 2013, this work consists of 64 inkjet photographs printed on paper and mounted onto acrylic. The images capture a diverse range of plants and animals, arranged in a way that feels like a field guide you might take on a hike. Zhao invites viewers to step into a curated natural history, but with a contemporary twist—there’s an almost playful arrangement and a sense of intimacy. The piece has been presented to the public by Andreas Teoh in 2022 and is currently on display in the Materials and Objects room at Tate Modern. It’s part of a broader exhibition pairing Zhao’s work with Salvador Dalí, showcasing the dialogue between classical and contemporary perspectives on nature.
